After a solid Race 1 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for Alex De Angelis and Lorenzo Savadori, Race 2 sadly saw the Aprilia riders both unable to see the flag, with Alex De Angelis suffering a front brake failure early in the race, before Savadori similarly suffered a technical malfunction that put paid to the Italian rookie’s hopes of another top 5 finish.

Savadori was behind fellow WorldSBK rookie Nicky Hayden when he crashed out of the re-started Race, and was disappointed to not be able to take advantage of setup changes made since the end of Race 1.

"I do not know why but I slipped,” explained Savadori. “Now we will try to understand what has happened. I was pushing but I did not expect what's happened, because I did not feel  at the limit. Both the first and the second start of Race 2 I was with Hayden, as in Race 1, but with a faster rhythm that I could keep thanks to the changes we made today. I just had to be careful for the tyre drop, but seemed all in all better than yesterday. Unfortunately it went like this and I fell. The weekend was also positive. Too bad because it could be another good race, I think that I could not get to the podium, but at least I could fight to stay in the first five. "

“The start of Race 2 was not beautiful like yesterday,” added De Angelis. “But in the end I managed to keep my position. In the first lap I had a good feeling, so much so that my time was already lower than yesterday's race and thanks to this I managed to pass Lowes before the end of the lap. I thought that even today there are all prerequisites for doing even better than yesterday. Unfortunately under braking in the second curve the lever came down, I could not stop myself and went straight. I tried to pump pressurize the system before returning and make my race, but apparently there was nothing to do and I had to retire. A shame".

IodaRacing now heads into the WorldSBK summer break, before both riders will be back on track at Lausitzring in September.
